Electronics and Communications Engineering

The B.E. in Electronics & Communications Engineering (ECE) programme at SVIET seeks to develop professionals who can design substantial, pertinent, and reliable electronics & communications systems. You have the option to choose specialisation electives to concentrate on your identified areas of interest in this four-year professional undergraduate programme that applies electronics knowledge to facilitate communication and solve engineering problems, such as embedded systems, wireless communication, satellite communication, biomedical signal processing, VLSI fabrication technology, speech processing, and optical communication.This program also opens up for you opportunities in government and private companies in the areas of design, manufacture,installation, operation, and maintenance of electronics equipment and systems. New avenues are also opening up due to integration of electronics into various new industrial verticals. The latest technologies include self-driving cars, autonomous drone logistics, robotics, automation in industries, smart energy systems etc. These industries demand engineers who are more hands-on with the latest technologies.

PO1: Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2: Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

PO3: Design/Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations.

PO4: Conduct investigations of complex problems using research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5: Modern Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6: The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.

PO7: Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.

PO8: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.

PO9: Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.

PO10: Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations and give and receive clear instructions.

PSO1: Working with Instruments: Appreciate working of electronic equipment/systems guided by practical experience and theoretical fundamental knowledge of Electronics & Communication Engineering.

 

PSO2: Extrapolating Domain Knowledge: Ability to provide solutions to real-world problems in the field of Electronics & Communication Engineering by extrapolating the fundamental knowledge of electronic devices, circuits, embedded & communication systems.

 

PSO3: Innovation and Design Ability: Innovative thinking and ability to design and/or improve products and/or systems for the society and industry for better utilization, human safety and reduced cost.

PEO1: Ability to generalize fundamental domain knowledge while working with electronic equipment/systems to handle engineering problems in professional career.

 

PEO2: Ability to get profound knowledge of modern techniques, EDA tools and to acquire technical skills to innovate new/existing solutions to engineering problems.

 

PEO3: Graduates will be known leaders in Electronics and Comm. Engineering and associated domains of engineering due their ability solve real-world inter-disciplinary problem.

PROGRAM CONTENT

The programme’s primary areas of focus are as follows:

Analog/Digital Electronic Circuits, Microelectronic Circuits, Digital VLSI Design and Verification Techniques, IC Fabrication, and Analog Layout Design Techniques are studied and put into practise while utilising a variety of CADENCE and XILINX supplied tools.

Real-time application development hands-on practise using industrial standard development boards as the Arduino MKR series, STM 32, Raspberry Pi, and others.

Understanding the prototype development cycle for IoT-based goods requires rendering abilities including signal and image processing, hardware abstraction, design rule checks, and data collecting.

practical knowledge of the major networking technologies combined with a CISCO certification.

Mode of Entrance

10th with a one- or two-year ITI and a two-year diploma in any field with a minimum of 45% and for SCs, 40%; 10th and 12th in non-medical or medical fields with a two-year diploma in any field with a minimum of 45% and for SCs, 40%; or 10th with a three-year diploma in any field with a minimum of 45% and for SCs, 40% with a gap certificate if the student has any gaps since

Eligibility Criteria

B.Tech

All those candidates who have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one the following subjects:

Chemistry/Biotechnology/Computer Science/Biology.

OR

Those candidates who have passed their 10th or 10+2 examination with science stream and have passed diploma in any Engineering Trade from Punjab State Board of Technical Education, Chandigarh or Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal (SLIET), or such examination from any other recognized State Board of Technical Education.

OR

The candidates who have passed two years certificate course from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal (SLIET) shall be eligible.

Lateral Entry to B.Tech

Candidates who have passed Diploma in Engineering / Technology with 50% marks in aggregate (for SC / ST 40%) or equivalent grade point.

Candidates who have only passed Diploma in any branch of Engineering / Technology are eligible for admission.

OR

Candidates who have passed B.Sc Degree
